Follow these simple tips to keep your candle burning beautifully every time
1. Nailing that first burn. Give it time, the first burn sets the tone for your candle’s entire life. Burn it long enough for the wax to melt evenly all the way across the top. This typically takes 2 hours for the first burn. A full melt pool maximises scent throw. No full melt pool = tunnelling, tunnelling = wasted wax. Wasted wax? Not in this house!
2. Don’t over do it. Your candles not a marathon runner, give it some rest . Burn your candle for no more than 3 - 4 hours at a time. Burning too long can create an oversized flame. Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting it.
3. Set the stage for success. Your candle needs a proper set up. Always place it on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface away from drafts, fans, or anything flammable. Drafts? Fans? Open windows? They mess with your burn and can cause soot or uneven melting
4. Relighting. If your wood-wick is playing hard to get and doesn’t relight easily, don’t panic. Remove any charred wood or wax residue from the wick. You may also need to trim the wick. If so, before lighting your candle, trim the wood-wick to about 1/8 inch (3 - 4 mm).Keeping the wick trimmed may help control the flame size, prevent excessive smoke, and ensure a clean, even burn. Untrimmed wicks can cause a build up of soot which can result in the wax turning darker in colour.
5. Safety First. We’re all about good vibes, but safety first. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. If the flame gets wild and starts flickering like its in a windstorm, extinguish it, let it cool down, and give the wick a quick trim.
6. Lights out. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame - clean, classy, and no risk of hot wax splatter.
7. Storage and Reuse. Keep your candle in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight. This keeps the scent fresh and the colour looking gorgeous. Once your candles done, clean out the jar and repurpose it
